Tonight I plan on indulging my inner music geek by going over to North Light to listen to some great music and have a drink and then to Artichoke Basille to do some karaokeing. :)

What in the fuck is up with people just assuming I'm married? This isn't 1947, lots of people aren't married!
unrelated, I had a great time at the Skeptics in the Pub meeting last night, at least those people aren't stupid enough to assume everybody's married.

Mailed my electric bill payment and picked up a few things including a slice of lemon cake from my favorite cafe. I'm waiting to hear from the guy from the skeptics group about when he's going to pick me up this evening.

The Dark Touch by Beth Ross

The Dark Touch by Beth Ross was excellent! In the United Republic of Britain, Nova finds out that witches are not extinct and that she is one of them.

This contemporary novel mixes an alternate history, urban fantasy and some elements of activism (women's rights, including abortion, and queer rights). A large tapestry of characters are introduced little by little, making it relatively easy to learn who's who. There's no cliffhanger, but I'm looking forward to the sequel.

Nova has a bi awakening at 23 (same!), there are sapphic characters of various orientations and there's major f/f. Abigail is on the autism spectrum.

One day, I'll just take a lot of pictures...

I finished Plutone and decided that, before working on Exia and Starfall, I'd see what's in the shoeboxes and whatnot under my desk. The answer is more projects and a lot of stuff to sort, but I managed to clean up a bit for now. Even if everything is stacked nicer, that's a start. I don't remember what I was going to do with all this non-model paint... and I don't know what I should do with it if it's still good... (I feel like I should just start on murals in my garage or something?)

I have a kit on the way that's hopefully going to be part of a contest entry. I'm not expecting/hoping to win or anything, but I want to challenge myself. The contest also ends right around when [community profile] iddyiddybangbang is due, so maybe a double-deadline will help? (I have multiple ideas for IIBB, we'll see how this goes?)

model kits of white Gundams Plutone and Astraea posed closely together so it looks like they are perhaps intimate. Astraea has a hand on Plutone's chest and Plutone has a hand on Astraea's arm.

Not much going on here now, I did some grocery shopping and cleaning up, swam some laps, wrote out my electric bill check, etc. Would like to get together with L. but they're busy. Looking forward to going to the pub with my new skeptics group tomorrow night.

Went to Haight St earlier today. I had pumpkin pancakes for breakfast at Kate's and walked around looking at bookstores and other cool stuff and mostly had a good time but I never want to hear that thunder only happens when it's raining song by Fleetwood Mac again. I heard it four times in one hour. That's enough and they can't even pronounce "washes" right!

inchoatewords: Miss Piggy from the Muppets, dressed like a librarian with hair swept back, a long-sleeved white blouse, and a purple skirt. She is holding a book and is reaching up with her other hand to a case full of books. Above her head is the word book and a heart (books)

Movies: None.

Television/Streaming: Started watching Farscape again; first time for me, but one of my husband's favorite shows. We had started watching it on his DVD set a while ago, and I don't recall why we stopped, but we only got a few episodes in. This week, we started with episode 5 (if you go by the DVD order; I guess the airing order on Sci-Fi/SyFy was different), "Back and Back and Back to the Future." Also watched the first two episodes of Buffy (which I guess aired as one long pilot originally). OMG high school flashbacks. Xander is annoying, haha.

Books: I finished Pathogenesis and in the end, I still found it really interesting, but as I said in my previous Media Post, I wish they would not have given it a different subtitle in the US. It does the book a disservice, in my opinion.

Currently reading Summer Fun by Jeanne Thornton. This was my pick for our DEI Book Club I started at work. I wonder how my colleagues will feel about this one! I was intrigued by the sample and I had wanted to choose a trans author as we are reading this during Pride month, but there is a lot more mysticism and witchiness than I was expecting from the blub, heh. I'M enjoying it immensely, which seems weird to say because it is very emotional and heart-stomping, but I think it is really good.

Gala, a young trans woman living in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico, is obsessed with a 1960s band called the Get Happies (which are thinly veiled Beach Boys). Their record, Summer Fun, was never released; why? The novel is written in an epistolary format, where Gala writes letters to the lead singer, B., retelling his life story.

Gaming: I've been using Pikmin Bloom to try to get some walks in during the week. That's about it from the video game side.

It's June.

If you want free "romantasy, PNR, and monster romance" stories arriving daily in July, FaRoFeb's FaRoCation is happening again. As always, there will be quantity. (I usually end up liking one or two of them, and it's free. *shrugemoji*)

A couple of weeks back, I asked at the bank about check registers since my previous check orders hadn't come with them and I'd finally finished my last one (dated 2020 on the back - it has still been 2020 all this time!) and was out. Turns out the check printers stopped sending them and they thought check orders still got them. I ended up ordering a 20-pack off Amazon which will possibly last for the rest of my life. (However, I'd just assume share the wealth and if you need one, lmk. They're a bit on the 'for ants' side which doesn't bother me but might be a dealbreaker for you.)

I also still have those Riverside TrekFest goodies if anyone wants them.

The date for the first Gundam Mobile Base Pop-Up USA Tour stop was announced a couple of days ago, for Kentucky at the end of this month. A not-impossible drive, and I put in for the day off just in case. But a Michigan date has been announced for September so I'll do that instead. It's much closer but I'm not sure the drive is any better. (ha!)

Worked on gutters (not mine) yesterday, and went to an estate sale to look at tools. Ended up getting some fine, fine wrenches and other stuff. Well over $100 in stuff for $10; I almost felt a little guilty. (Almost.)

I officially got the airbrush out of its box and tried it! One hurdle, um, hurdled! It will take a few sessions to figure out exactly what I need as far as a set-up goes, but I will definitely need to liberate one of the extra chairs recently unearthed in the barn.

1. Have you ever been to summer camp?
Yes, Hume Lake, a week each summer 1991-1995.

2. Have you ever made a s'more?
Of course. However, I need to try a version my friend posted the other day: skewer a Reese's PB cup, dip in marshmallow creme, then roast it.

3. Have you ever slept under the stars (no tent/tarp)?
Maaaaaaaaaybe? I think I did for one night with my 4th grade Girl Scout troop.

4. Have you ever had a member of the opposite sex sleep over at your house?
Yes.

5. What type of bed do you have (queen, twin, bunk, etc.)?
Queen, in a black metal frame. Nearly 20 year old mattress and box spring that's still comfy, but horrifies my sister.

I had a great time yesterday, after me and my friend had lunch and went swimming we decided to spend the rest of the day together instead of my going to the piano thing and we met her boyfriend (who I'm also friends with) for drinks and then went to their place for a great dinner and hung out and had a wonderful evening.

[personal profile] lydamorehouse presents the 2025 Pride Bundle in this post.

I've already read several of these books and recommend them all:
- Point of Dreams by Melissa Scott and Lisa A. Barnett
- Fairs' Point by Melissa Scott
- A Necessary Chaos by Brent Lambert
- Reforged by Seth Haddon
- Welcome to Boy.Net by Lyda Morehouse
- Power to Yield by Bogi Takács

Part of the proceeds go to Rainbow Railroad, an NGO that helps LGBTQ+ people escape state-sponsored persecution and violence worldwide (same as the DuckPrintsPress bundles I posted about here).

The novella Praxis by David Gerrold (The Man Who Folded Himself) was interesting. In order to escape being sentenced to the Labor Corps, James and José opt to emigrate to Praxis, a colony world with only men, and get fake-married to improve their chances.

Let's talk about wrong expectations. None of the story actually takes place on Praxis, only in the training camp, though the camp is also men-only.

The story isn't exactly m/m, it's more of a queerplatonic relationship at this point, though they talk about maybe having sex in the future.

Had a great time yesterday with L., I miss them already.
I have been wasting time trying to make appointments with physical therapy over the phone, they never answer the phone, I leave messages, they never call back, I had to go to their office earlier this morning and even then I couldn't get an appointment for over a week and then I couldn't get enough of them. I used to book them for a two month block of time but apparently they won't let anybody do that anymore.
I burned the shit out of my thumb trying to make a hard boiled egg because the oven glove had a hole in it. I put some aloe vera gel on the burn but it didn't seem to help it much.
The scammer cretins are playing games with the phone again. They seem to have dropped the fake accident crap and are now claiming to be with the electric company.

Here's the new Korean practice post! I've switched to a post EVERY OTHER MONTH, as everybody is pretty busy. As usual now, it's an open chat.

You can write about whatever you want. If you're uninspired, tell us the story of what you're currently watching/reading/playing...
You can talk to one another.
You can also correct one another. Or just indicate "No corrections, please" in your comment if you prefer.

This morning I had some PG tips and went to the Arizmendi bakery, picked up some goodies and dropped them off at home and then went to the downtown Berkeley book festival, didn't buy any books but did a lot of just general browsing, then went home and did laundry and swam my laps.
